A top-10 punter commits to Oregon

Special teams get a new addition with top-10 punter Tyler Kinsman.

On Thursday afternoon, Oregon’s special teams unit received excellent news when punter Tyler Kinsman, who is ranked 10th, declared his commitment to head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks 2024 class.

“I’m beyond blessed to announce that I have committed to The University of Oregon,” Kinsman posted on social media after making his announcement. I’ve received so much support and love from @oregonfootball, which has made my decision simple. Nothing compares to Oregon! I am grateful to my parents, coaches, friends, and mentors for supporting me during this journey; without you, I would not be in this position. Many thanks to @Chris_Sailer for his leadership and platform! I will never forget @T_Rausa and his incredible mentoring during my kicking career! I’m eager for four more years of advancement!”

According to 247 Sports’ Top 247, Kinsman, a punter from Skyview, Idaho, is No. 8 in the nation and No. 10 among players in the state. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Kinsman was named to the Polynesian All-American Bowl and received offers from Boise State and Dartmouth, according to his 247 Sports profile.

This past summer, Kinsman was also recognized as the Northwest Showcase’s Specialist MVP.

The following is an assessment on Kinsman from ChrisSailerKicking.com: “Tyler is among the best high school punting and kicking prospects in America. Big, tall, powerful, and athletic is the Polynesian Bowl selection. Tyler performs a fantastic field goal. He easily has a 55-yard range and strikes the ball cleanly and accurately off the ground. He can make strong, D1-caliber kickoffs. Tyler uses 4.0+ hang time to drive the ball into the end zone. Tyler is a fantastic punting prospect as well. His frame is perfect for a D1 punter. Tyler has a 4.8+ hang time and averages 45+ yards. His greatest ball has a length of 60+ yards and a hang time of 5.0+.

An opponent who performs well under duress. Tyler is fully equipped to be a disruptive force at the highest level. I adore his potential and upside in general. Working with him is always a wonderful pleasure because he is a fine young man. Fantastic combination opportunity.

It’s still unknown if Kinsman will play for Oregon on a scholarship. In that case, he would be the class of 2024’s twenty-fifth recruit.
