A number of Razorbacks with extra year left not moving on Senior Day
|One of the hot topics in Fayetteville right now is which of the eighteen seniors listed as still eligible from their 2020 eligibility being forgiven might decide to play another season in Arkansas.
The fact that a number of seniors chose not to walk on Senior Day Friday may reveal some answers.
On Friday, Senior Day, nineteen Razorback players will take a stroll downtown Fayetteville before the season’s last game against the Missouri Tigers. There are a total of 26 players who are categorized as seniors, super seniors, redshirt seniors, or redshirt super seniors on the official University of Arkansas roster.
Eighteen of those players are classified as redshirt and seniors, meaning they can play one more super senior season because the NCAA has granted them a year of eligibility forgiveness in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two of the 19 players that are on their way out are freshmen. Additionally, safety Alfahiym Walcott and defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat, who are no longer eligible, have chosen not to walk.
Notably, although the roster lists eight players without eligibility, head coach Sam Pittman stated that there are 12 or 13 players who do not have eligibility on Monday.
“Not every 26. Some have chosen not to participate in that. However, there will be a large number of them “explained Pittman. “I believe there are thirteen—possibly even twelve—that are undoubtedly leaving. Since they are highlighted in bold red on our board, there is no conversation to be had because they do not even have a plus one. Thus, we are aware of who will be present. After that, there are guys like Hudson Clark. Still, he’s got a plus one.
“Those two guys—Brady Latham and Beau Limmer—have a plus one. We’ll attempt to resolve all of that on the following week’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. You have time to bring them in, have a conversation with them, and find out what their future goals are because it’s clearly a dead period, but they’ll still be out there.
[KJ Jefferson] is planning to attend, and he is bringing a guest. Who knows what will happen with all that things, then? However, they’ll be out there too, so we’ll have the chance to speak with them.”
The most indicative group of athletes who could be returning are those who have attended Arkansas for several years but are not walking away as seniors with remaining eligibility. Among them were offensive lineman Ty’Kieast Crawford, defensive end Jashaud Stewart, and defensive tackle Eric Gregory.
Other seniors who are still eligible but have only joined the program this season are wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa, cornerback Kee’yon Stewart, tight end Francis Sherman, and defensive tackles Anthony Booker Jr. and Keivie Rose.
