A former Michigan football player has joined the staff, and Mike Hart’s status has been clarified

We now have additional information about the Michigan football coaching staff, since Mike Hart is absent for “personal reasons” and there is a new graduate assistant.

Sherrone Moore, the new head coach of the Michigan football team, has been busy assembling his coaching staff. On Monday, he added defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s right-hand man, Kevin Wilkins, as a defensive analyst.

That was a very wise decision, especially given Wilkins’ nine years of NFL experience and his intimate knowledge of the defensive scheme Michigan football will employ. It is the same strategy that the Wolverines used under Jesse Minter and Mike MacDonald.

However, we learned more about the coaching staff on Monday when Josh Henschke of Rivals reported that running backs coach Mike Hart is gone from the program for “personal reasons.” There were no other specifics, and there didn’t need to be. Hopefully, whatever is going on with Coach Hart will be resolved soon, and we wish him all the best.

The phrasing of the report suggests that Hart will return to Michigan football when he is ready. We can only hope for the best.

Former Michigan football player added a graduate assistant

Brad Hawkins, a starter for the 2021 Michigan football team, will return to the Wolverines as a graduate assistant. He recorded 178 tackles during his Wolverines career, which lasted from 2017 to 2021. He was recognized for forcing a critical turnover toward the end of the Nebraska game in 2021, securing the Wolverines’ victory.

The NFL signed Hawkins as a rookie free agency, and he spent some time with the New England Patriots. He will now return to Ann Arbor next season as Sherrone Moore’s graduate assistant.
