Cameron McGrone, an Indianapolis Colts linebacker, will begin the 2024 season on injured reserve.

According to James Boyd of The Athletic, McGrone was placed on injured reserve due to a dislocated elbow.

Prior to Wednesday’s practice, Boyd spoke with McGrone, who said that the injury occurred during a drill at training camp and required surgery.

McGrone has already overcome two separate ACL injuries, one in his right knee while in high school and the other in his left knee during college.

McGrone only appeared in the Colts’ first preseason game, where he recorded five tackles and caused a turnover.

During roster cuts, McGrone was one of two Colts players, along with defensive end Samson Ebukam, who were placed on injured reserve but expected to return. This new designation allows teams to have up to two players return from IR without first being placed on the 53-man roster.

McGrone established himself as a key special teams player for the Colts last season, playing 151 snaps across four phases. When he returns, he will most likely play an important role in that period of the game.

Following roster cuts, when general manager Chris Ballard spoke with the media, he emphasized McGrone’s significant progress in his game over the previous year and how excited the organization is to have him back.

We do not yet know when McGrone will return. The IR regulations force him to miss at least four games.
