A £30 million Bundesliga player is still a goal for West Ham before 2024

Hugh Southon claims that Piero Hincapie of Bayer Leverkusen is still a target for West Ham.

Any offer from United will be made towards the conclusion of the season rather than in the January window, the Hammers writer said in an update on Claret & Hugh on Saturday (14 October).

In the summer, the Hammers expressed a “genuine” interest in signing the Ecuadorian international, but no firm proposals were made [Ben Jacobs].

Leverkusen’s reluctance to sell midway through the season and West Ham’s lack of cash, according to Southon, make a transfer for a player worth around €35 million not possible until the summer of 2019.

Given the latest rumors surrounding Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma, it is no accident that West Ham is still being linked to center-backs.

Harry Maguire’s name keeps coming up, while Malick Thiaw of AC Milan has recently been mentioned as a potential target [Manuele Baiocchini].

Hincapie has undoubtedly been on David Moyes’ radar for some time, but any deal will probably be contingent upon a player leaving London Stadium first.

The 21-year-old appears to have significant talent, but his Leverkusen contract runs through 2027, so he won’t be cheap.

Although he has had trouble getting starts at Leverkusen this season, the fact that he can also play left-back suggests that his opportunities will eventually arise.

This is a transfer that undoubtedly appears conceivable down the road because of Hincapie’s versatility, which is undoubtedly another reason why Moyes is allegedly interested in him.
