According to Football Insider, Ipswich Town have begun preliminary talks with Fulham to sign on-loan star Jay Stansfield in January.

Since joining Birmingham City on loan from Fulham last summer, the striker has made an enormous impact.

The Tractor Boys are aiming to reach an agreement with Marco Silva’s side that will see him removed from Wayne Rooney’s faltering side for the remainder of the season.

At the halfway mark, Fulham have the option of recalling Stansfield from his loan at St Andrew’s and sending him to a new team.

While no decision has been made, the west Londoners are open to the 21-year-old moving in the winter.

Other Championship clubs have expressed an interest in Stansfield, but Ipswich is seeking to get a jump on them by negotiating with the Premier League club.

Fulham have no intention of reintroducing the striker into their squad in the new year.

Stansfield has been a rare star for the Blues this season, scoring seven goals and assisting twice in the Championship.

He is a versatile attacker who has appeared in 22 games in all competitions this season, playing all along the front line as well as in attacking midfield.

Ipswich Town have enjoyed tremendous success under manager Kieran McKenna, who has them vying for promotion to the Premier League after leaving League One last season.

They are presently second in the Championship after a late point against league leaders Leicester City, and they will play QPR on Friday evening (December 29).
