It is expected that Ipswich Town will have a busy January transfer window.
The Tractor Boys were rather quiet throughout the summer, as Kieran McKenna did not want to make too many changes despite their promotion to the Championship.
The club made a couple significant additions but was arguably quieter than many thought. However, that appears to have worked for them, as they’ve been outstanding this season, so much so that they appear to be on track for back-to-back promotions.
McKenna will most likely add one or two players to his team in January to keep things fresh as they try to keep up with Leicester City.
As the transfer window opens, it appears McKenna and Ipswich are eager to stay on top.
Kieran McKenna is set to be handed a £3m transfer kitty for January
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Ipswich board is planning to pay McKenna a large sum of money during the forthcoming January transfer window.
According to the source, the Tractor Boys would provide their manager with sufficient funds to allow him to enter the market and buy a striker.
According to Nixon’s last update, the club has handed the Northern Irishman up to £3 million to spend on a forward and is also paying roughly £15,000 per week.
Town already have a number of alternatives in the final third, with players such as Conor Chaplin, Nathan Broadhead, and George Hirst having had successful seasons.
They still have Kayden Jackson, Freddie Ladapo, and Dane Scarlett, all of whom have played important roles but may have struggled at times this season.
Despite the numerous possibilities, McKenna is eager to bolster his forward line, and if that is the case, the club should revisit Colby Bishop of Portsmouth.
Ipswich Town should look to sign Colby Bishop amid £3m news
It was rumored earlier this year that Ipswich were interested in signing Bishop as a summer signing if they were promoted to the Championship.
However, no agreement was reached, and Bishop remained at Fratton Park beyond the summer transfer season.
The 27-year-old forward joined the South Coast club in the summer of 2022 and scored 24 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions in his first season.
That form drew the attention of Ipswich, and Bishop has maintained that good form so far this season. He has 11 goals in 19 League One games, contributing to Portsmouth’s strong league campaign.
Bishop is averaging 0.6 goals per game this season, with a scoring frequency of 144 minutes and a goal conversion rate of 19%. According to SofaScore.com, the forward is averaging 3.1 shots per game, with 1.5 on target.
Bishop has scored the majority of his goals with his preferred right foot, with nine and two coming with his head. The forward averages 64% passing accuracy per game and collects 1.1 critical passes. Bishop is no stranger to putting in work for the squad, having won 50% of his aerial duals and 47% of his total duals, according to SofaScore.com.
Bishop appears to have improved steadily throughout his career, and while he is now playing in League One, his performances and form will pique the interest of teams in the second tier.
The more he performs, the higher his price tag will rise, but it will also be more difficult for Portsmouth to keep hold of the player.
Pompey will not want to lose their greatest player, but if Ipswich come coming and offer £3 million, the club’s side and the players will find it difficult to turn down.
