The Detroit Lions have been without one of their top defensive backs for the duration of the season after C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a recent free agent addition, tore his pectoral during the team’s Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
However, it appears that he will be rejoining the team in the near future.
According to ESPN, C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s 21-day practice window may begin as soon as next week if he is medically cleared to return. Following this update, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell praised Gardner-Johnson for having “mutant genes” that facilitated his quick recovery.
“He’s an X-Men, he’s got these mutant genes because he’s healed extremely quickly and regained his strength.” According to ESPN, Campbell stated, “It’s safe.” “So, yeah, he’s going to be ready to go here pretty soon.”
The Lions have now dropped back-to-back games as they battle to stay in the postseason race, so Gardner-Johnson’s return to the lineup in the coming weeks would be a huge boost for the squad.
