NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Responds To Controversial Offsides Penalty In Chiefs-Bills Game
|An offensive offsides penalty committed on Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney over the weekend wiped out what would have been an all-time spectacular go-ahead touchdown in the Chiefs’ 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Now, commissioner Roger Goodell has spoken out about the event, expressing his support for the game’s officials.
If you’re perplexed as to why this play is still being discussed, you’re not alone. On the play, Kadarius Toney was definitely offsides.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell weighs in on the KC-BUF offsides call: “There was no question about that foul. … It was absolutely the correct call.”

People, however, went insane. Patrick Mahomes threw a temper tantrum, Andy Reid was stunned after the game, and a slew of people complained about it on social media.

I get it; it ruined an incredible play that would have been a memorable touchdown, especially with Taylor Swift in the crowd. But are the officials supposed to tolerate such blatant infractions? It’s not like they waited till the play was over, realized it was fantastic, and then threw a flag. It was hurled not long after the ball had been snapped.
For what it’s worth, the Chiefs have reversed their position.Patrick Mahomes apologized for his behavior and remarks, and Reid acknowledged that Toney was wrong. However, there was no reason for Goodell to have to address this three days later. Every week, referees fail to answer calls. We shouldn’t talk about the ones they get right.
