The Yankees have re-signed two players to minor-league contracts.
According to YES Network’s Jack Curry, the Yankees have signed Billy McKinney and Anthony Misiewicz to minor league contracts.
McKinney slashed in 48 games last season. In 147 plate appearances, he hit 227/.320/.406 with 10 extra-base hits, including six home runs. That’s a huge cry from where he was a year ago.
McKinney was designated for assignment after only 23 games in 2022, after making the Opening Day roster for the Oakland A’s, the team that chose him in the first round in 2013.
He finished the season in Triple-A Las Vegas, where he hit in 69 games.295 with a.926 OPS, 12 home runs, and 49 RBI.
The Yankees took a second chance on McKinney, a former top-100 MLB prospect, in 2023 after seeing promise in him. McKinney, who was part of the transaction that brought Gleyber Torres to New York, had previously been with the club for two years.
The 29-year-old outfielder proved to be worth the risk.
