Manchester City is currently navigating a challenging period, having secured only one victory in their last 12 matches across all competitions. This downturn has seen the reigning Premier League champions slip to seventh place, trailing league leaders Liverpool by 12 points.

Manager Pep Guardiola has openly acknowledged the team’s struggles, expressing concerns about the potential financial and competitive repercussions if City fails to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. He emphasized the critical importance of securing a top-four finish, not only for the club’s prestige but also for its financial health. Guardiola stated, “The solution is bring the players back.”

Despite the poor run of form, Guardiola has implemented measures to address the situation. In preparation for the upcoming Boxing Day fixture against Everton, he has arranged for the team to stay overnight at the club’s training ground on Christmas Day. This decision aims to maintain the usual pre-match routine and underscores the importance of the forthcoming match. Guardiola remarked, “It’s our job,” highlighting the necessity of focusing on their responsibilities to improve performance.

The team is also contending with an injury crisis, particularly in defense. Key players like Ruben Dias are sidelined, and there are doubts over the fitness of goalkeeper Ederson and defender John Stones. These absences have compounded the team’s difficulties on the pitch.

Guardiola has taken responsibility for the team’s current predicament, stating, “I’m not good enough. I am the boss, the manager, I have to find solutions and so far I haven’t.” He acknowledges the need for improvement and is committed to finding ways to reverse the team’s fortunes.

Looking ahead, Manchester City’s immediate focus is on the Boxing Day match against Everton. Everton, currently 15th in the league, has shown defensive solidity in recent matches, earning draws against Arsenal and Chelsea, and securing clean sheets in five of their last six games. City will be aiming to capitalize on their strong home record against Everton to secure a much-needed victory and initiate a turnaround in their season.

In summary, Manchester City is facing a significant challenge amid a poor run of form. Manager Pep Guardiola is actively seeking solutions, with the support of the club’s board, to navigate this difficult period. The upcoming fixtures, starting with the match against Everton, will be crucial in determining the trajectory of their season.
