In keeping with a concerning pattern, the Seattle Seahawks lost 17–16 at Sofi Stadium after trailing the Los Angeles Rams 17–16 after a strong offensive start. This problem was exacerbated by injuries to Geno Smith and Ken Walker III.

The Seattle Seahawks, led by Geno Smith, had the best possible start to their rematch with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in terms of an NFL road opener.

Playing with a hot hand from the first snap, Smith completed seven of the eight ball attempts for fifty yards, helping the Seahawks to a 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ate up over eight minutes of clock time. The seasoned quarterback moved the chains with two crucial third-down completions to Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He then finished the drive with an eight-yard touchdown ball to DK Metcalf.

But in eerily similar fashion to their meltdown against the same Rams squad in Week 1, that early advantage didn’t hold for the Seahawks as the offense sputtered for most of the final three quarters. Producing less than 100 total yards and three points in the second half, albeit without an injured Smith for a large chunk of the final 30 minutes, they wound up dropping a 17-16 decision, falling out of first place in the NFC West in the process.
