Matt Irwin, former Boston Bruins defenseman, announced his retirement from professional hockey on Thursday (November 14).
Irwin played the 2015-16 season with the Bruins organization. He participated in two games for Boston, posting zero assists and a minus-5 rating.

Irwin spent the remainder of the season with the Bruins’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins. In 64 games for Providence, he scored five goals, 30 points, and a plus-1 rating.
Irwin scored 25 goals, 93 points, and 719 hits in 461 games across 11 NHL seasons with the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, and Washington Capitals.
Irwin, 36, played 65 games in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks, scoring five goals and 16 points.
