After learning about his opponent for the forthcoming Davis Cup, Nadal emailed David Ferrer a four-word response confirming his participation in the tournament.

Rafael Nadal has not been seen on the professional tennis circuit since his disappointing performance at the Paris Olympics, but it has been reported that the Spaniard has confirmed his participation in the Davis Cup later this year.

After learning about his opponent in the forthcoming Davis Cup, Nadal issued a four-word response to Spanish Davis Cup captain David Ferrer, confirming his participation. At the Paris Games, Nadal was handily defeated by Novak Djokovic in the singles, while in the doubles, he and new tennis prodigy Carlos Alcaraz failed to get to the medal round.

Nadal withdrew from the Laver Cup last month, citing a lack of physical fitness. However, Ferrer is sure that the 22-time Grand Slam winner will be ready for the Davis Cup in November.

“When the draw was announced, I wrote him a note instructing him to prepare to face Botic Van de Zandschulp. His response was straightforward: ‘I shall be ready.'” Ferrer informed Spanish YouTube channel DGO.

According to Ferrer, the 38-year-old is likely to play a few events before the Davis Cup to prove his fitness.

Ferrer stated: “He’s going to play the Six Kings Slam this month, and I’d prefer him to compete in another event before joining the squad. I’ll talk with him about it in the coming weeks.”

Since his early withdrawals from both Olympic games, Nadal has kept a low profile about his physical condition. However, in a rare September interview with Spanish station El Hormiguero, the tennis legend indicated his intention to continue enjoying tennis.

Nadal stated that he missed the majority of the 2023 season as well as the start of this year. He added that he purposely took time out to recover and renew his love for tennis.

“What I have done during all this time is to give myself a margin, to give myself the option to enjoy again, to play tennis after a year and a half away from the courts,” Nadal told the press. “And that’s what I’m doing, trying to enjoy every day, trying to do my best every day.”
