According to Ian Rapoport, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner’s ankle injury from Sunday was not “severe.”

Rapoport described the injury as a sprain, adding that X-rays on Buckner’s ankle were negative and that an MRI is still scheduled.

Although Buckner’s injury does not appear to be a long-term concern, Rapoport believes he will be a “long-shot” for the Colts’ Week 3 game against Chicago.

Buckner sustained the injury in the second half of the Colts’ loss against the Packers. He was chasing a Packers ball carrier and seemed to roll his ankle while attempting to tackle him.

Buckner’s injuries appeared severe at first, and he had to be carried off the field and carted to the locker room.

Buckner has been an incredibly disruptive force in the middle of the defense during his career, as well as a very durable player, missing only a few games.

Buckner was suffering with a back issue heading into the game against Green Bay. He didn’t practice during the week, but he was ready to go on Sunday.

If the Colts are going to be without Buckner against the Bears, turning around their poor run defense will be significantly more difficult.
