The Indianapolis Colts could always need more defensive firepower, so trading for a two-time Pro Bowler might make sense.

The Indianapolis Colts lost last year’s sack leader, Samson Ebukam, before the season began due to an Achilles tear. While rookies Laiatu Latu, Tyquan Lewis, and Kwity Paye have covered the vacuum created by Ebukam’s absence, Indianapolis’ defensive trenches may require additional reinforcements given the early stage of the 2024 season. According to The 33rd Team, Indianapolis could look into dealing for a two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher to improve their predicament.

Current New York Jets defensive end Haason Reddick has expressed dissatisfaction with the team and a wish to be traded. This comes after the Philadelphia Eagles traded him to the Jets before the 2024 season in exchange for a conditional 2026 draft pick. If the Colts execute this move, it may not cost them much draft money, given the many deals for Reddick that occurred within months of each other.

Reddick is in the final year of his deal (Three years, $45 million, per Over the Cap), which will be paid out in 2024 by the Jets. Indianapolis may acquire Reddick through trade while improving their defensive line. Reddick is coming off four straight seasons with 10 or more sacks and two consecutive Pro Bowl selections, so he will undoubtedly have an immediate effect on the Colts’ defensive front.

Will the Colts trade for Reddick? If history is any guide, Chris Ballard has the potential to make this a reality. Ballard favors pass rushers and wants Indianapolis’ defense to be built on pressing the quarterback to aid the inexperienced secondary, even if JuJu Brents is out for the rest of the season. While it may appear implausible on the surface, expect the Colts to be active in the pursuit of Reddick, as a trade might be made to elevate Indianapolis’ pass rush with 16 games remaining in 2024.
