The Indianapolis Colts returned to the practice field Wednesday and published their first injury report of the week ahead of their game against the Green Bay Packers.

Five players, including three defensive starters, were listed on the injury report as not practicing.

Julian Blackmon (shoulder) – did not practice

DeForest Buckner (back) – did not practice

Kwity Paye (hamstring) – did not practice

Josh Downs (ankle) – limited

Matt Gay (hernia) – full participant

Buckner left Sunday’s game late due to a back issue, but both he and Shane Steichen appear confident about his potential to play this week against the Packers. Buckner did not require practice time to be productive, therefore this may have simply been a rest day for him.

The timing of Blackmon and Paye’s injuries is less clear. Blackmon played all 79 of the Colts’ defensive snaps versus Houston, while Paye played 52, the most of the team’s defensive ends.

The injury to Blackmon most likely influenced the team’s decision to sign Ronnie Harrison to the practice squad.

This week, the Colts’ defense will face yet another severe test. While Jordan Love is unlikely to be under center for the Packers, the offense still includes Josh Jacobs at running back, as well as a bevy of receivers and two explosive tight ends who can impact the passing game.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Colts had excellent news. Josh Downs returned in a limited role. According to The Athletic’s James Boyd, Downs feels “80-90%” and believes that being able to run and cut without worrying about his ankle will be critical to his ability to play.

While the Colts’ offense was able to make many spectacular plays this past Sunday, Downs’ return will provide much-needed stability to the passing game.

Finally, Matt Gay was ready to travel on Wednesday, which means he will be available on Sunday, barring any setbacks.
