Ipswich Town have announced new contracts for Christian Walton and Wes Burns in an effort to bolster their squad.
Over the last few years, the pair have played significant roles in East Anglia’s rise from League One to the Premier League.
Burns joined Portman Road from Fleetwood Town in 2021 and has since established himself as a key member of the team.
Walton, the goalkeeper, arrived on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021 before making the move permanent in 2022.
The shot-stopper has faced competition in recent years, as Vaclav Hladky was first-choice during the promotion-winning campaign, and Aro Muric joined Ipswich this summer.
With new contracts signed, Kieran McKenna’s team may be able to focus on their next moves in the squad and the market.
Wes Burns and Christian Walton discuss new contracts
Burns and Walton have signed new contracts that will keep them at Ipswich through the summer of 2026.
It helps to recognize players for their contributions to the club’s swift ascension to the top while also providing some stability over the team situation.
Burns told the official club website about his choice to sign a new contract: “This has been a wonderful club for me, and I’ve enjoyed my time here as a person and a player.
“When I signed three years ago, I didn’t think we’d be where we are now, but it’s been a great trip.
“This is one of the best groups I could ever hope to work with.” There is a wonderful sense of unity here, and I am thrilled to have signed a new contract.”
Walton, who faced Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, expressed similar comments.
“I’m delighted to have extended my contract with the club,” Walton stated on the club’s official website.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here since joining on loan in 2021, and being a part of the road to the Premier League, winning back-to-back promotions alongside a fantastic group of players, has been truly wonderful.
“Making my Premier League debut against Liverpool on the opening day of the season was a proud day for me and I am pleased to have committed my future to the club further.”
It remains to be seen how much either will feature in the coming months as the Tractor Boys attempt to avoid relegation back to the Championship.
Ipswich Town contracts expiring in 2025
With Burns and Walton now extended their stays at Ipswich, attention will inevitably shift to the next players who could be offered a new contract.
The current Ipswich team players who are out of contract in 2025 are:

- Axel Tuanzebe
- Luke Woolfenden
- Cameron Burgess
- Massimo Luongo
All of Leif Davis, Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Woolfenden, and Cameron Burgess’ contracts include the option for an additional year, which will alleviate some of the strain around new deals.
However, Davis is likely to be the top priority, given how vital he has been to the team’s performance.
It remains to be seen if any of the other four expiring contracts will be renewed in the coming weeks and months.
