Edwin Agbaje, a young Ipswich Town player, has signed on loan with Sutton United in the National League until January.

The 20-year-old right-back has made two senior appearances for the Blues, while also spending time on loan at Yeovil Town in 2022-23. He was named Town’s Academy Player of the Year during that season.

Agbaje returned from an ankle injury last season, becoming a regular for the U21s and captaining the team.

He has joined Steve Morison’s side, which was demoted from League Two last season and now plays in the fifth tier.

His new coach stated, “We are delighted to welcome Edwin Agbaje to Sutton United. Edwin, a former Under-18 Republic of Ireland international with a bright future, adds ability and potential to our squad.

“It’s apparent that Ipswich recognises the value of developing young players through our club. Edwin is an interesting prospect, and we believe he will have a huge influence this season.

The Irishman will join Town U21s teammate Finley Barbrook at Gander Green Lane, after the midfielder joined the U’s on loan last month.

Agbaje will not make his Town debut until mid-September, due to an injury incurred during a pre-season tour of Austria.
