Derby County manager Paul Warne provided an update on his team’s transfer efforts following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Watford.

The Rams took the lead after only two minutes thanks to Ebou Adams’ second-minute strike, but goals from Vakoun Bayo and Moussa Sissoko either side of half-time put the Hornets in control.

Derby are now preparing for a midweek trip to AFC Barrow, with Friday’s transfer deadline rapidly approaching, before facing Bristol City on Saturday. Warne was unable to fill his bench for the trip to Watford, and with Josh Vickers, Kane Wilson, Corey Blackett-Taylor, Ben Osborn, and Eiran Cashin all absent, the Rams head coach’s options are limited.

Is he expecting a hectic finale to the transfer window? “There isn’t anything to tell you, but I am hopeful that I can get another striker, another midfielder and another defender because obviously we need to,” Warne told reporters.

“We did not even fill the bench today. We also have four injured players, which isn’t helping. To move up the League, the group will need to give their all and have genuine belief.

“I am very confident in the group, but it does require certain additions, which we will attempt to do. Warne also provided an injury update for new absentees Vickers and Osborn, with the former sitting out totally following a fantastic man-of-the-match performance against Middlesbrough.

“Josh Vickers had a tight groin and the game probably came two days too soon, hopefully he will be all right for Tuesday,” Warne said. “Ben Osborn had a little soreness in the calf on Thursday so dropped out of training.

“He won’t be OK for the Barrow game, but hopefully he would be an option for the Bristol City game.”
