The Rams head coach witnessed Kayden Jackson get on the scoresheet and record his first league goal for the Rams over the weekend.

Paul Warne believes Kayden Jackson’s maiden league goal will be a “lovely memory” and has swiftly demonstrated why the forward was one of his top transfer priorities this summer.

The Rams’ head coach bought the former Ipswich player on a free transfer, and he has already scored twice this season, against Chesterfield in the League Cup and the winner against Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Warne will now hope Jackson can score in his third consecutive game when Derby go to unbeaten Watford on Saturday (3pm) to build on their performance against Boro.

Warne said: “It will be a lovely memory for him. When he went clean through it felt like everyone was going ‘go on then, don’t look, keep going’.

“He’s so fast, no one was going to catch him. That is what it felt like. When he went around the goalkeeper, I was thinking, “Please don’t pull a Ronny Rosenthal.”

“But his out-of-possession work ranks right up there. This is why I brought him to the club. He’s a goal threat, a highly cerebral footballer who responds well to teaching. The manner he approached his aim was enjoyable to see.”
