Derby County goalkeeper Josh Vickers delivered an outstanding effort as his club rallied to defeat Middlesbrough 1-0 at Pride Park.

Vickers made a succession of spectacular saves after Kayden Jackson capitalized on a Boro mistake to give the Rams a first-half lead.

Boro dominated possession and had multiple chances, but Vickers and poor finishing kept them scoreless.

Vickers delivered a statement after Derby signed Swedish goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom from Djurgarden on Friday. His handling was flawless, and the defending in front of him held fast against wave after wave of Boro onslaught.

Certainly, Rams supporters were impressed and quickly demanded that he remain his position for the time being. They also praised the Rams’ effort following their opening-day defeat at Blackburn.

Miguel Kelly: Not pretty but a great win against one of the promotion favourites. Add 4 or 5 more Championship quality players and we will have a decent season. Considering we had 2 forced changes that was an excellent win.

Mariusz Ożga: A bit of luck and a whole load of stubbornness… valuable points!

Jim the lad: Vickers my man of the match. Didn’t put a foot wrong and must keep his place.

George: Some absolute resolute defending today. Boro controlled that game, but we wanted it so much more!

Chris Baker: To all those ‘fans’ who went into complete meltdown after the Blackburn defeat – Stand down and crawl back under your rock!

Sam Jones: Awful game to watch but a huge 3 points for Derby. Home games are going to be crucial to staying in the league this season.

TheFT: Got to win ugly to stay up! The stats are a bit eye-opening, but as my eldest said, the only stat that counts is the final score.

Homer: Much much better. Decent performance. and that was some goal to win it.

KentKev: That was an improvement and a really solid win. Vickers had a great game as well.

Callum Woodward: Massive 3 points. I really hope the Cashin and Wilson situations are not serious. Well done lads.
