It’s no wonder that athletic 3-year-old Sterling Skye Mahomes wants to emulate her father, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, one especially nasty habit she learned from her father alarmed Brittany Mahomes while the two were playing golf together.

The Mahomes family is full of athletes, and they have always encouraged Sterling and her younger brother Bronze to participate in a variety of sports. One of their favorite activities is golf, and while the Mahomeses have a golf course at their Kansas City house for practice, Sterling’s swing still needs work.
Sterling misses the ball on her first effort, then whips her head around and delivers a line from out of Patrick’s playbook, according to a video posted by her mother Brittany to Instagram.
“That was a practice swing,” she explained, making a cute excuse. She had to repeat the same phrase before making contact on her third attempt, thanks to some helpful advice from Brittany.
“She really said that was a practice swing,” the soon-to-be mother of three told her 2 million Instagram followers, tagging her husband so he could view the hilarious video of their headstrong daughter.
Mahomes making excuses
When things go wrong on the gridiron for Mahomes, he is typically the first to look for an excuse. In particular, he has a reputation among fans for being “whiny” and constantly urging the officials to throw flags in favor of the Chiefs.
While some fans view his mentality as “making excuses,” others see a passionate competitor with a tremendous will to win, which has guided Kansas City to three Super Bowl championships in the last five seasons.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP will hope that is the lesson his daughter takes from him as she begins her young athletic career.
“Both Brittany and I participated in sports growing up. Patrick previously stated, “I believe there are many values that can be learned from participating in various sports.” “I try to swing the golf club around her as much as possible, so one day I could take her out to the course with me.”
