Every NFL training camp brings the worry of an injury, and Detroit Lions supporters are now among those holding their breath.

According to the Lions, second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs exited practice on Monday afternoon due to a leg injury. He went through position drills with both running backs and wide receivers before leaving ahead of team drills. ESPN reports that he is being checked for a hamstring ailment.

Gibbs was picked by the Lions with the 12th choice in the 2023 NFL draft and made an immediate impact in his first season.

Gibbs has a history of hamstring issues, including missing time in October of last year.

After a rocky start, Gibbs rediscovered his stride near the conclusion of the season, finishing with 945 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns on the ground. The versatile running back also threw for 316 yards and a touchdown, and he spent a significant amount of time in training camp working with receivers to improve his pass catching.

Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. also leave with injuries

The Lions used their first two picks in the 2024 NFL draft to solve their largest need: cornerback. Terrion Arnold of Alabama was selected first, followed by Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the second round.

Both players had to leave Monday’s practice due to injury.

Arnold left with an upper-body ailment, while Rakestraw was being evaluated for an ankle injury, according to the organization. Rakestraw exited at the start of team drills with a limp. Arnold exited during one-on-one tackling drills after competing against Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Both players made their preseason debuts with the Lions against the New York Giants, with Arnold playing only a few snaps and Rakestraw playing slightly more but still going off early.
