The New Orleans Saints’ biggest running storyline this offseason has been offensive system changes.

As they’ve moved on to training camp, we’ve seen players actually want to understand and implement the offense.

Dennis Allen was asked about the team’s success in implementing Klint Kubiak’s method. According to Allen, “happy would be the right word, but satisfied would not be the right word.”

This is positive. His dissatisfaction stems entirely from his insatiable desire to achieve more. Allen went on to remark that he wants to keep putting more on the players’ plates to see “how much they can handle.” It is a continuing process, not an indictment of where he believes they are now.

Allen specifically praised Derek Carr’s performance during the two-minute exercise. He believed there was good communication during the period of practice. Allen, like everyone else, understands that Carr’s performance will have a significant impact on offensive production in 2024.

Following a period of defensive dominance, the offense has rebounded in recent workouts. This is what you want to see in practice. A back-and-forth game is far more encouraging than a one-sided victory.

This has slightly reduced the level of anxiety about the infraction. For example, you may be less concerned with the offensive line, but you are aware that there are still issues there.
