Trente Jones had some ups and downs over his Michigan football career.

However, during the 2024 season, he played an important role in the Wolverines’ national title victory.

Jones started all three postseason games for Michigan football this season, and he performed admirably in the Rose Bowl against future first-round pick Dallas Turner of Alabama.

Jones also proved to be an exceptional run blocker. When he wasn’t playing guard or tackle, Michigan employed him as an extra blocker, and he was great at it.

Trent Jones has retired from the NFL

With the way he played at the end of the season, I thought Jones had a good chance of getting drafted. The 6-foot-6 offensive tackle had the option of returning to Michigan football for another season, but instead chose to enter the draft. He wasn’t selected, but the Green Bay Packers signed him as a rookie free agent.

With a history of using diverse offensive lineman, Jones seemed to have landed in the right position. The Packers are also not scared to keep a rookie free agent.

Last season, the Packers started a former seventh-round draft pick at left tackle. However, on Monday, the Packers confirmed that Jones had been placed on the reserve/retired list.

It means the club retains Jones’ NFL rights, but he has decided to withdraw from playing. Jones may always reconsider, and if he does, the Packers can either reinstate him on the roster or release him.

Trente Jones was an outstanding Michigan football player, and the Wolverines would not have won the national championship last season without his services.
