Birmingham City manager Chris Davies is happy with how young Wales player Jordan James has handled the ongoing talk about a possible abroad move this summer.

After being connected with two Italian Serie A clubs earlier this year, followed by more rumors that he might transfer abroad, the 20-year-old is now reportedly on the verge of joining French top flight side Rennes for £8 million.

However, James, who scored eight Championship goals last season, has continued to play a key role for newly relegated League One club Blues this preseason.

“He’s shown a brilliant attitude,” Davies told BBC Radio WM.

“Every day, JJ worked hard, and there was no difference between him and the other guys.

“That is a testament to him, as there has been a lot of talk and speculation about him.

“I discussed this with him from day one. But, for such a young man, to deal with it all with such poise, I’ve been quite pleased.”

While Davies has made nine new recruits this summer, with a tenth expected soon, the Blues have also released a number of players.

In addition to the five players released at the end of last season after their contracts expired (defender Marc Roberts, attacker Scott Hogan, midfielders Ivan Sunjic and Gary Gardner, and goalie Neil Etheridge), experienced keeper John Ruddy turned refused a new contract to join Newcastle United.

Academy product James, who has 10 goals in 104 senior games for the Blues, still has a year left on his current contract.
