According to The Telegraph, Jayden Bogle, Liam Delap, and Omari Kellyman’s summer moves resulted in £2.7 million in sell-on fees for Derby County.

Derby County has faced some difficult times in recent years, including administration, relegation, and near-collapse.

Fortunately, those days are over, and the Rams are once again in contention for the championship. Paul Warne led his side to automatic promotion in 2023/24, so they’re ready for a new chapter this season.

Of all, much of the transfer attention has been on getting players in the door. However, players who have left the club in recent years have earned the club some significant amounts this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Derby County academy graduates Jayden Bogle, Liam Delap, and Omari Kellyman have all moved on to other clubs, raising £2.7 million in sell-on payments for the Championship new boys.

Bogle moved from Sheffield United to Leeds United, and Liam Delap departed Manchester City for Ipswich Town following a series of loans. Kellyman’s move from Aston Villa to Chelsea is the most high-profile, costing an estimated £19 million.

Intriguingly, the study states that the funds acquired from the Delap purchase may have been higher if Derby County and Quantuma, the club’s administrators at the time, had not requested more money up front.

Welcome boosts

No one at Derby County will remember that period of the club’s history fondly, but the sell-on clauses for Bogle, Delap, and Kellyman have paid out in the long run.

It has provided Warne with finances to reinforce his ranks ahead of the new campaign, and it is believed that it would help them close some more transactions in the last weeks of the window.

More depth is required in certain critical areas, so the coming weeks should not be quiet at Pride Park.

The Rams’ top need is to find a new goalie, but they also need more defensive depth. A forward-thinking midfielder may provide depth and flexibility.

The campaign ahead

Derby County will surely want to finish as high in the Championship table as possible this year. However, the primary goal will be to prevent an instant return to League One and remain in the second division.

On Fright Night, things get started to a tough start against Blackburn Rovers. Rovers, managed by former Rams player John Eustace, are expected to struggle, putting some early pressure on the outcome of this encounter for both sides.

Starting with a victory over practically every other Championship team would send an early statement to the remainder of the division.
