Nottingham Forest are desperately trying to conclude a recruitment drive before the Premier League season begins in just over a week.

The Reds have been active this summer, albeit not as much as in the previous two summer windows, adding six new players to their team.

Eric da Silva Moreira, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Miguel, Nikola Milenkovic, and Jota Silva have all signed on and participated in the preseason.

Marko Stamenic was the first of the six, but he has already left for Greece to go on a season-long loan with Olympiacos, and he may face Forest tonight.

However, the transfer process is far from complete, and a new link has arisen, although unexpectedly.

Nottingham Forest want Vinicius Souza from Sheffield United

According to Brazilian publication RTI Esporte, Forest are among the clubs interested in signing Blades midfielder Souza.

According to reports, the South Yorkshire club might cash in on Souza if a £18 million fee is agreed upon this summer following a strong recruitment drive.

Souza only joined United last summer and was a fixture in the team as they made an immediate return to the Championship after a disappointing season.

The midfielder appeared in all but two Premier League games for United last season, but he is currently being scouted by a number of European clubs.

According to the article, Fulham is another Premier League club interested in signing the defensive midfielder, along with Lyon and Milan.

Who is Vinicius Souza?

The Brazilian made his Premier League debut last summer, signing for the Blades from Belgian club Lommel for an unknown cost.

He joined them from Brazilian club Flamengo in 2020, but was loaned out to KV Mechelen and Espanyol in La Liga.

Souza is a midfielder with a strong defensive game, and given how awful Sheffield United were last season, the numbers suggest he wasn’t.

According to Who Scored, with 125 tackles last season, he was the division’s third-best in that category.

He was second only to Fulham’s former star Joao Palhinha and Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes in terms of successful tackles.

The research also lists aerial duels, ball interception, and blocks as his skills, noting that he enjoys tackling yet commits fouls frequently.

Forest should only swoop for Souza if midfielder exits

Nicolas Dominguez has been linked with a move to Galatasaray this summer, while Fenerbahce is reported to be interested in Ibrahim Sangare – though that deal would be pricey.

Danilo is on Manchester United’s radar, and Ryan Yates recently signed a new long-term contract with the club.

In our opinion, this link is extremely interesting, but it makes us wonder if the Brazilian media is utilizing Forest in the story because they know the club has a significant connection to the Brazilian market.

Signing Souza would only make sense if one of the aforementioned midfielders leaves City Ground this summer.

At the present, it appears to be a lot of money for a player who would not be the first option in his position, and it appears that this one will be a wait and see situation.
