Novak Djokovic completed the golden slam on Sunday, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in two sets—7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2)—to claim the Paris Olympics men’s tennis gold medal.

Alcaraz, who is already a four-time major winner at the age of 21, was visibly devastated when Team Spain finished second. He promised to bring a gold medal to his native nation at some point.

The day after the match, Djokovic took the time to send Alcaraz an encouraging message on social media. The 24-time major winner did not want Alcaraz to feel dejected by the setback, but rather motivated.

“Another spectacular finale, @carlosalcaraz. Djokovic wrote, “El clasico.” “Congratulations to you and your team on a successful Olympics. Given your age, energy, and playing style, you most likely have another 20 Olympics ahead of you. Your gold will arrive. “Until the next time, amigo.”

This could be Djokovic’s final Olympic debut at the age of 37. It was only his second Olympic medal, having won bronze in Beijing in 2008.
