The Atlanta Braves have a good chance of making the playoffs this season, but they won’t be at full strength.

Atlanta has not appeared to be at full strength this season, with high-impact injuries popping up left and right. The Braves presently hold a postseason berth, but if injuries continue to pile up like they have recently, they will be unable to maintain their pace.

The Braves received more terrible news on Monday, as All-Star pitcher Reynaldo López was placed on the Injured List due to right forearm discomfort, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

“News this morning: Braves place RHP Reynaldo López on 15-day IL, retroactive to August 2, with right forearm inflammation,” Morosi told the media. “Bryce Elder recalled.”

López has been a revelation for the Braves this year. Atlanta has not been entirely healthy, therefore López has stepped up into the starting rotation. He is having the finest season of his career thus far, with a 2.09 ERA through 19 starts.

The veteran pitcher received his first All-Star nod this season owing to his dominance on the mound, but the Braves will have to wait to see if he can return to the field soon. Any elbow or forearm injury is a major worry for a starting pitcher. Hopefully, he recovers quickly and helps the Braves win more games in the near future.
