Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says set-pieces will be’massive’ for the club as they compete in the Premier League this season.

The Blues won their match against Hoffenheim on Saturday thanks to a corner kick, and numerous set pieces were directed at the tall Jacob Greaves at the back post.

And McKenna believes that, with Town expected to have fewer chances in the top flight, threatening from set pieces will be critical.

“It’s going to be massive for us, no doubt about it,” he remarked following Saturday’s victory.

“Our set play record has been fantastic in recent years, particularly offensively, but also defensively.

“We will definitely need it as a source of goals. We will see fewer set pieces, corners, and set pieces in the final third.

“So we need to optimise them as much as possible against teams that will be even more organised.

“It’s a big challenge and if we can still contribute goals from set-plays in different ways it’s going to be big for us – so it was nice to get one today.”
