Nottingham Forest have reportedly made their first enquiry to acquire a new winger ahead of Premier League rivals Newcastle United, looking to complete their seventh summer signing.

Nottingham Forest transfer news

The Reds have had a busy summer, with another acquisition earlier this week – their sixth of the window – in the shape of Portuguese winger Jota Silva. The 25-year-old joins Forest’s list of new players, which includes Nikola Milenkovic, Elliot Anderson, and Carlos Miguel, as the club looks to avoid relegation.

Welcoming Silva, Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson told Forest’s official website: “We can see how excited Jota is to continue his career journey beyond Portugal where he has enjoyed such a strong period in the Primeira Liga with Vitoria Guimaraes, which resulted in him earning his debut for the Portuguese National Team back in March.”

Wilson may perhaps welcome more talent before the summer concludes. According to Ole in Argentina via Sport Witness, Nottingham Forest has made the first approach to recruit Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina this summer, ahead of Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. With conversations underway, Forest is poised to make a formal offer to the Italian club.

However, signing the winger will be difficult, as Juventus is also interested in signing him. Forest may hope that the Premier League’s appeal will influence his choice this summer. At 26 years old, Gonzalez might be at the height of his career, thus the high demand for his talents is unsurprising. It would be a coup if folks at City Ground won the race for his services before the end of this month.

“Intelligent” Gonzalez can unleash Awoniyi

If Forest can add Gonzalez to Nuno Espirito Santo’s roster, attack may be the greatest form of defence in the coming season.

The winger would immediately gel alongside Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who might thrive even more with more opportunities.

Gonzalez would be an excellent outlet for Forest, and he also works off the ball to achieve good ball retrieval statistics. In the midst of a relegation battle, a winger of his caliber may swiftly prove to be the key to Premier League survival.

Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino praised Gonzalez at the start of his term, telling Viola News: “His position is as a right attacking midfielder, but he can play in multiple positions because he is an intelligent player, and the more we have, the better.”

With only a few weeks until the transfer window closes, Forest might make headlines once more in the Premier League for a seventh summer arrival.
