The Indianapolis Colts released a veteran offensive lineman for more pressing roster needs.

The Indianapolis Colts are hastily adding depth at defensive end after Samson Ebukam tore his Achilles, ending his 2024 season before it really began. Indianapolis is started the search by bringing in Levi Bell, a former Seattle Seahawks defender.

Bell attended college at both Louisiana Tech and Texas State. In three years in the NCAA, Bell recorded 93 tackles (21.0 for loss), 9.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Bell formerly played for the Michigan Panthers in the now-defunct United States Football League. While the USFL folded, it merged with the XFL to become the United Football League, where the Panthers remained as a team.

Bell’s name may not stand out to many, but he has enough experience to keep the defensive end competition exciting. This signing is even more important given that depth edge rusher Titus Leo was carried off the field following the July 30th training camp practice.

To make place for Bell’s signing, Indianapolis released veteran offensive guard Lewis Kidd. Kidd was primarily practicing with the third team during training camp and was listed on the depth chart as a left guard. The former New Orleans Saints guard will see what is available on the open market now that he is a free agent.

The question of who Kidd’s departure will give up possibilities for is debatable. Josh Sills is now the backup left guard to superstar Quenton Nelson. Kidd finished third behind Sills, and it appears there is no competition for the reserve LG position. Tanor Bortolini, who is presently ranked behind former seventh-round pick Will Fries, may also get looks at both left and right guard positions.

The Colts’ training camp is beginning to take shape, and context is emerging. What kind of team can supporters expect to witness in 2024? So far, it appears that Shane Steichen and his youthful team are eager to show what they can do to the rest of the NFL. If everything goes as planned, the Colts may surprise the league this season.
