Ipswich Town fans would have been understandably disappointed to learn that Nathan Broadhead had suffered a major injury during pre-season training, with the former Everton junior player turned Tractor Boys hero now expected to miss several months.

Broadhead’s 13 goals in Championship competition last season were critical in helping his team cross the finish line and gain automatic promotion at the conclusion of the dramatic 46-game schedule, but Kieran McKenna will now have to do without the 26-year-old gem operating down the left flank for the time being.

To address the issue of the exciting Welshman being sidelined, the new Premier League club could try to sign this talented ace, who has recently been relegated back to the second division.

Ipswich plotting move for Burnley ace

According to Football Insider, McKenna and Co. are interested in adding Burnley forward Wilson Odobert to their roster this offseason, maybe as a speedy substitute for the now-injured Broadhead.

According to the report, Ipswich’s interest in the young Clarets winger stems from the Tractor Boys’ lack of success in the transfer market with a deal to sign Jaden Philogene-Bidace, with the tricky ex-Hull City man ultimately relocating to Villa Park rather than Portman Road.

The Burnley number 47 could provide Ipswich with another bright spark in attack next season if signed, having gone about his business at Turf Moor last season, even as the Clarets were continuously inundated in a bid to avoid relegation.

Odobert will want to sign on the dotted line in Suffolk and assist his new employers stay in the Premier League, giving McKenna fewer selection difficulties to worry about while Broadhead is in the Portman Road treatment room.

What Odobert can offer Ipswich

Broadhead is yet to be given the opportunity to hone his skills in the men’s game at the pinnacle of English football, having only made one professional appearance in the Premier League while at Everton.

On the contrary, the ÂŁ10k-per-week forward – according to Capology – now has a full top-flight season under his belt, and while his side did slip through the relegation trap door at the end of it all, the French winger was a constant source of entertainment and thrills for the Turf Moor faithful during bleak times.

Odobert would help himself to three goals and two assists in 29 games for the Clarets in the top division, with Ipswich hoping he can burst into life even more if he does take the plunge to play in Suffolk, with sublime long-range strikes like the one against Fulham above in his pocket.

Obviously, replacing in for Broadhead will be a difficult task, especially given that the ex-Everton teenager scored double figures last season, but Odobert will be eager to try himself in a new setting.

He might shine even brighter next to fellow raw young stars Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson, who joined the building last summer.

McKenna, who was described as a “extraordinary” talent by football journalist AndrĂ©s Onrubia Ramos when he was still playing in his native France with Troyes, will hope that signing Odobert is a masterstroke purchase if it is completed, with Broadhead returning into the fray down the line with competition for his spot.
