Yankees are sending three prospects, including a Triple-A catcher, to the Marlins.

Before the MLB trade deadline, the New York Yankees acquired All-Star outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins obtained three Yankees prospects in exchange for Chisholm, including catcher Agustin Ramirez, according to ESPN.

Despite its 60-45 record this season, New York needs to improve at the plate. Players such as infielder DJ LeMahieu, outfielder Alex Verdugo, and others have struggled to get started, and the Yankees have not been the same squad that exploded out of the gate to begin the 2024 season.

Enter Chisholm, a 26-year-old who can play anywhere on the field and provides a reliable lefty bat in manager Aaron Boone’s lineup. Chisholm is hitting.249/.323/.407 with 14 doubles, 13 home runs, and 50 RBIs in 101 games with the Marlins this season.

However, Chisholm has struggled in July, hitting.198 in 94 plate appearances, despite having a.309 on-base percentage thanks to 12 walks.

Chisholm also brings speed on the base paths, which the Yankees lack, as they rank 29th in stolen bases this season. Chisholm has 22 stolen bases, which ranks him tied for 12th in the MLB. The Yankees have 43 on the season.

It’ll be intriguing to see how the Yankees use Chisholm on the field.

Chisholm began his Major League Baseball career as an infielder, playing second base and shortstop with the Marlins during his first three seasons. Chisholm, however, was shifted to center field in 2023, where he has been ever since.

Verdugo plays left field for the Yankees, while Aaron Judge plays center and Juan Soto plays right. Boone could be seeking to implement a designated hitter carousel, giving players a break while rotating players in the outfield to keep fresh legs.

But, given Verdugo’s.178 batting average in June and.287 on-base percentage this season, Soto could shift to left field, Judge back to right field, and Chisholm to center field.

The Bronx Bombers also need depth at third base, but Chisholm has never played there in his career. That could indicate that GM Brian Cashman is searching for more than one bat to help his struggling lineup make a postseason run.

The Yankees are going all in by acquiring Chisholm, but he is hardly a rental player. Chisholm has two more years of team control before becoming a free agent in 2027, which is why it took three prospects to complete the deal.

Chisholm, like the other players in the Yankees’ locker room, has a huge personality that suits the bright lights of New York. As long as Chisholm continues to produce, Yankees fans will appreciate it.
