The Atlanta Braves may try to make a trade with the Chicago Cubs for outstanding shortstop Nico Hoerner.

The Chicago Cubs are preparing for a hectic weekend ahead of the MLB trade deadline. With the prospect of becoming sellers, many players are waiting to find out what will happen to them.

Jed Hoyer intimated that the team would be willing to sell. At the very least, they will not trade for players to help them acquire exclusive rights during the 2024 season.

There is still a chance that the Cubs will try to acquire talent under contract after the 2024 season. However, they are more likely to be willing to sell senior players in order to retool for the future.

Nico Hoerner, the outstanding second baseman, is one guy to keep an eye on as the deadline approaches. While he is undoubtedly a player Chicago wants to keep in the future, teams throughout the league will make aggressive bids.

If the Cubs are open to moving Hoerner, the Atlanta Braves could be interested.

NBC Sports Chicago named Hoerner as a possible trade possibility. They also mentioned the Braves as a possible destination.

“The Atlanta Braves just lost Ozzie Albies for at least two months, and while they did call up Nacho Alvarez Jr., Hoerner could be an intriguing addition to the squad as well.”

Hoerner’s performance in the 2024 season has been below expectations. So ask the rest of the crew to be honest.

He has played 96 games this season, batting.254/.332/.347. In addition to the slashline, he has four home runs, 30 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.

Hoerner is 27 years old and still has many good years ahead of him. He is also under contract for two years beyond the 2024 season.

Atlanta hopes to get back into serious contention in the National League. Acquiring a player like Hoerner would be a significant step toward that goal.

Expect to hear a lot of whispers about the Braves and Chicago before the deadline. They’re on opposite sides of the table, with the Cubs likely selling and Atlanta buying.

Maybe they might work together on a large transaction with Hoerner as the centerpiece.
