Marc Leonard, a former loanee from Northampton Town, has joined Birmingham City on permanent terms.

Leonard will join the Blues on a complete transfer for an unknown sum after leaving his previous club Brighton and Hove Albion. He signed a four-year contract with the West Midlands club.

The move puts Leonard in line to face the Cobblers next season, as Birmingham prepares to participate in the third division of English football for the first time since 1995.

Leonard is Birmingham’s eighth signing ahead of the new season, as the Blues, now led by Brendan Rodgers’ former assistant manager Chris Davies, look to compete for an immediate return.

Leonard was a regular throughout his two seasons on loan at Northampton, making 97 games in all competitions as he helped the club win promotion from League Two in 2022/23 and then comfortably survive last season.

Leonard had been linked with a move to Championship clubs, but in an arrival interview with the Birmingham City website, he stated that Birmingham’s ambition made them a club he wanted to join ahead of the new season.

He stated, “What matters most to me is the Club’s vision and direction. I believe that our aspirations are very similar, given where I am in my career and where Birmingham is.

“I was very keen to get the deal done as I knew that Birmingham was the club for me, I knew I wanted to play here.”
