It speaks to Patrick Mahomes’ greatness that he was able to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LVIII last season despite having an inconsistent offensive group surrounding him.

Mahomes essentially met his lofty expectations, but his numbers, including a career-high 14 interceptions, were hampered by an underperforming wideout corps. Several times, the Chiefs’ defense saved the offense.

Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid don’t want to struggle for points this season. The Chiefs’ quarterback-head coach tandem, with the support of general manager Brett Veach, expect to gain from fresh additions to the receiving corps, which has been reinforced by free agency and the NFL Draft.

Hollywood Brown creates high expectations for the receiver group

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown signed a one-year contract with Kansas City in free agency this offseason after spending time with the Arizona Cardinals. This new-look Chiefs receiver group, which includes prized youngster Xavier Worthy, is poised to impress — and Brown is already enjoying life with the two-time defending Super Bowl champs.

Brown told reporters at Chiefs training camp that he like the speed established by Mahomes and Reid, which has helped him understand the Kansas City playbook. With Mahomes’ aid, he believes the new-look receiving corps is poised for a breakout season.

Brown is coming off a four-touchdown season with the Cardinals, and he is only two years removed from accumulating 1,000 yards with Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens. He is already bringing Mahomes’ intensity — and catching absolute dimes — fueling lots of hope that the Chiefs can create NFL history by winning their third consecutive Super Bowl in 2024.
