Birmingham City are set to miss out on signing fullback Harrison Burrows, as the Peterborough United captain is expected to transfer to the Championship.

Alan Swann of the Peterborough Telegraph has disclosed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Sheffield United are expected to win the race for the 22-year-old, and Burrows will complete his move to Bramall Lane within the next 48 hours.

Furthermore, Swann added in his article for the same publication that a fee of £3 million has been negotiated between the two teams and that the agreement will contain hefty add-ons “related to personal and club success”.

The left-back had a physical with the Blades few weeks ago, but the transfer was stalled due to Sheffield United’s potential takeover reaching an impasse. However, it appears that this will no longer be an issue moving ahead, with the South Yorkshire outfit willing to cough up the agreed-upon funds to complete the transaction.

Burrows had a fantastic season for Peterborough United in League One last year, earning 16 assists and seven goals in 43 appearances despite mostly playing on the left side of a back four. His outstanding performances at the Weston Homes Stadium have aroused the interest of several English Football League clubs.

Preston North End has been linked with Burrows in recent weeks, while Birmingham City was also rumored to be interested in the fullback before the club signed Heart of Midlothian player Alex Cochrane for £1.3 million plus add-ons.

This would have been an incredible acquisition for Birmingham City. The Blues have already made ripples in this transfer window, signing seven players, including Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Emil Hansson, and Alfie May, League One’s top scorer last season.

Despite his tendency to make defensive mistakes, Burrows was the finest left-back in England’s third tier last season and may believe it’s time to move up to the Championship. This could be why Chris Davies’ team decided to sign Cochrane as an alternative.
