Everton’s summer has been one of steady growth so far, and even if they lose one outstanding player, it appears unlikely to derail their entire transfer season.

After all, Sean Dyche has worked with knowledge and thoughtfulness alongside his football director, choosing objectives and addressing them calmly but with quiet ruthlessness.

This proficiency has already resulted in three acquisitions, and more are almost probably on the way after Amadou Onana joins Aston Villa.

However, with the Belgian poised to depart, it has become evident that a new midfielder may be required.

According to sources, an offer has been submitted to acquire just that.

Everton bid for Weston McKennie

According to Italian publication CalcioMercato, Everton’s latest target is Weston McKennie.

They claim that an offer has already been made for the 25-year-old, with Juventus keen to sell this summer after previously attempting to send him off to Aston Villa as part of the Douglas Luis deal.

According to the article, a ‘tempting plan’ was offered, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.

An uncharacteristic risk from Kevin Thelwell

The majority of Everton’s financial problems can be traced back to a few individuals and a series of poor decisions.

After all, watching the likes of Marcel Brands and Steve Walsh squander precious monies was disheartening, but both made similar mistakes in their pursuit of deals for the same type of player.

Lucas Digne (C) of Everton celebrates scoring his side's second goal with team-mates Andre Gomes (L) and Yerry Mina during the Premier League match...

Seeking to bring in big stars from large clubs, the likes of Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina, Theo Walcott, and Alex Iwobi all signed and made little effect despite commanding huge wages due to previous contracts.

The Toffees needed to persuade them to join their faltering team, and long-term rich contracts appeared to be the way to go.

McKennie, while not exactly the same age as some of these failed signings, is still an unusual gamble for Thelwell, who has veered from that business strategy in recent years.

The American international has already had one six-month term in the Premier League, which was terribly disappointing as Leeds United was relegated, and he has flattered to deceive for the majority of his Juventus career.

At this point in their rebuilding, Everton could be better off searching elsewhere.
