The Chiefs seek to get the offense on fire in the NFL’s 2024/25 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have strengthened Patrick Mahomes’ passing options by signing a free agency wide receiver in an effort to avoid the offense troubles that plagued their Super Bowl-winning squad in 2023.

On Wednesday, July 17, the Chiefs announced that they were making six roster adjustments due to injuries, with Joe Thuney, Derrick Nnadi, Charles Omenihu, and Jaylen Watson all being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform List, and B. J. Thompson also being placed on the Non-Football Injury list.

Following that, head coach Andy Reid elected to sign Kyle Sheets, who practiced with the team on Wednesday, including with Mahomes, after being undrafted in the 2024 NFL draft. He then agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints, who waived him on July 14 before sending him to the Chiefs.

At 6ft4in and 220lbs, he is likely to wear the number 26 jersey and join Mahomes’ receivers, which include Xavier Worthy, Travis Kelce, Marquise Brown, Rashee Rice, and Mecole Hardman.

Who is Kyle Sheets?

The Chiefs chose to offer Sheets a contract following a successful NCAA college football career in which he made 76 catches at Slippery Rock and ranked third in Division II with 17 receiving touchdowns.

At the age of 23, he was a two-time Division II All-American who had 154 catches, 2240 receiving yards, and 29 touchdowns during his Slippery Rock career, placing among their top ten players.

Prior to the NFL Draft, Sheets participated in Temple’s Pro Day, where he recorded a 38-inch vertical jump and a 4.52 mark in the 40-yard sprint.

Sheet’s immediate goal will be to make the practice squad in Kansas City, where he is expected to compete alongside Montrell Washington and Phillip Brooks, to name a few.
