Huascar Ynoa, the Atlanta Braves’ right-hander, will begin a rehab assignment with the FCL Braves. (H/T: Matt Chrietzberg of Outfield Fly Rule) Ynoa missed the entire 2023 season to recover from Tommy John surgery.

The Braves had hoped that Ynoa would be free of restrictions entering Spring Training, but that was not the case, and he made only one appearance in the Grapefruit League. He started the season with Gwinnett and made three appearances, allowing 11 hits and seven runs in 9 2⁄3 innings before returning to the disabled list. In those three outings, he was said to have slowed down.

Atlanta should have some rotation options after the All-Star break. AJ Smith-Shawver is recovering from an oblique injury and should return soon. Ian Anderson is also on a rehab assignment following Tommy John surgery and could be available in the second half.

At this point, it’s probably not a good idea to expect anything from Ynoa in the majors this season, but it’s encouraging that he’ll be back pitching in games shortly.
