Introducing Luke Sinnard

The Braves entered the college arm crop again in the third round, selecting Indiana right-handed pitcher Luke Sinnard. Sinnard is an intriguing prospect with a four-pitch repertoire and strong command; three pitches might be above-average or better. Of course, there is a catch: he is currently injured and is unlikely to throw this season, despite having an arm capable of reaching 96 mph with two swing and miss breaking balls. However, if he had been fully fit, he would have been a strong candidate for Day 1.

Sinnard began his career at Western Kentucky and struggled as a freshman before moving on to Indiana last year, where he struck out 114 in 86.1 innings while walking only 25. He did not pitch this year because to the injury that necessitated Tommy John surgery at the end of the previous season.

First Reaction

The Braves select another injured pitcher, Luke Sinnard. Sinnard might be a steal if he stays healthy and could have been drafted on day one. He is an intriguing prospect for a team that will most likely be financially limited on days two and three.
