Birmingham City gained from Krystian Bielik’s decision to sign a new deal.

Krystian Bielik has settled uncertainty about his future by signing a new three-year contract with Birmingham City.

The Poland international has committed to a season in League One to help the Blues return to the Championship after being relegated last season. Bielik, who already had two years left on his current contract, is now under contract at St Andrews until 2027.

Many expected the 26-year-old to quit the Blues at the end of last season, especially after skipping the awards ceremony. Bielik’s pledge provides a significant boost to Blues and manager Chris Davies ahead of the club’s first pre-season game against FC Paderborn 07 on Saturday.

Bielik was one of the Blues’ best performances last season, particularly at centre-back in the second half. The Blues kept three clean sheets in their final four Championship games, with Bielik at the heart of their defence.

He has also demonstrated his fitness since joining Blues from Derby County two years ago, initially on loan before making the move permanent in 2023. Bielik has made 35 league starts in each of the last two seasons.

Bielik has made 86 appearances for the Blues in three consecutive periods, beginning with a loan from Arsenal in 2017. He will be part of Davies’ plans for the coming League One season.
