The BYU-Utah rivalry is back in full swing.

Cam Rising, a seventh-year senior and Utah starting quarterback, spoke with the media on Tuesday as part of Big 12 Media Days. When discussing the rivalry, Rising provided BYU with bulletin board material. When questioned about the BYU-Utah rivalry, Rising replied, “I just want to go down there and whoop their a** pretty much. That is all I am concentrating on.”

Rising was on the roster for BYU’s last game against Utah in 2021, but he did not participate. The Cougars defeated the Utes 26-17 while Rising was on the bench. Rising was defeated in the quarterback duel that season by Baylor transfer Charlie Brewer. Rising eventually replaced Brewer as starter and guided Utah to the Pac-12 championship.

This was not the first time Rising addressed the BYU-Utah rivalry with the media. Rising stated during spring training that he was “chomping at the bit” to play for BYU.

While injured during the 2023 season, Rising appeared on the Pat McAfee show, where he mentioned BYU unprompted as Utah prepared to play Oregon.

Rising was about to enter his last year of college football when Pac-12 media days took place last summer. Rising stated, “I only wish I could play [BYU] once. That is all. That is a team I want to play for, and I wish we could play them this year.”

Rising, who is returning for his eighth year of college football, will get his wish. BYU will travel to Salt Lake City to face Utah on November 9th at Rice Eccles Stadium.

BYU, on the other side, hopes to start a winning streak against Utah. BYU defeated Utah by two points in their most recent meeting in 2021. Utah has not faced BYU since 2019, as both teams did not play in 2020 because to COVID-19.
