Town are reportedly close to signing Hull City’s Jaden Philogene and Jacob Greaves.

According to reports last night, Philogene will have a physical at Portman Road in the coming days, while Greaves is believed to have already arrived at the club ahead of the completion of the two signings.

Tigers owner Acun Ilicali believes the two will join the Blues, telling the Hull Daily Mail: “Yes, Ipswich are the favourites now.”

They report that the transaction is worth £40 million plus major additional payments, which is greater than prior estimates that the Championship club would receive an initial £35 million.

East Yorkshire authorities promptly refuted claims yesterday that Everton were the frontrunners to capture Philogene. Crystal Palace are also thought to have signed terms with the Tigers, but the player is said to have decided to join the Blues.

His old clubs, Aston Villa, West Ham, Tottenham, and Manchester United, had all expressed interest in the former England U21 international.

Barcelona were said to be interested in the forward on loan, but Philogene later announced that he will be transferring to the Premier League instead.

The 22-year-old, who has two years left on his Hull deal with an option for another season, joined Aston Villa’s youth from the Pro:Direct youth and spent time on loan with Stoke and Cardiff City before making his £5 million move to the MKM Stadium last year.

Greaves, 23, a Cottingham native and the son of former Hull City and York City defender Mark Greaves, rose through the ranks at his hometown club before going on loan to Cheltenham Town in 2019/20.

In 2023/24, his fourth season in the Tigers’ first squad, he was named to the EFL Championship squad of the Season and won his club’s Player of the Year. Everton and Tottenham have both been linked. Greaves is under contract with Hull until the summer of 2026, with a one-year extension option.

The pair are expected to become Town’s third and fourth senior signings of the summer, following Omari Hutchinson and Ben Johnson.
