Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson Discloses Injury as IR Decision Approaches
|Deshaun Watson left Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with an undisclosed injury, and the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns did not offer any explanation for this latest setback.
After taking a big hit in the first quarter against the Colts, Watson underwent a concussion evaluation. Although he was cleared, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski felt uneasy about starting his $230 million franchise quarterback again.
“My job is to make tough decisions, as you guys know,” Stefanski stated on Sunday, October 22. “I didn’t want to witness him being struck. He took a serious blow, and I’m sure he recovered, but I felt compelled to shield him.
Watson has a strain in his rotator cuff. In addition to missing games against the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens, he also rested on the week off in between. Watson went only 1-of-5 for 5 yards against the Colts, including an interception, before he left the game.
According to the Browns quarterback, a concussion is not his biggest concern. His throwing shoulder injury, which he has been struggling with for the past month, was more of a concern.
Watson remarked, “The head thing caught me off guard.” I was taken off for a concussion, but I was unaware of it until I entered the tent. The head wasn’t even a concern for me. The shoulder was largely affected.
Watson is wishing for the best following additional tests since the Browns have not given him an update on his ailment.
“At this moment, all I can do is hope that it wasn’t worse,” Watson remarked. “Just keep asking for prayers, and we’ll see what happens [Monday].”
Browns Don’t Rule Out IR for Deshaun Watson
Regarding Watson’s status for this week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, the Browns have not made a decision. Stefanski would not rule out the possibility that Watson would be placed on injured reserve for a period of time, resulting in at least four games being missed.
I consider things daily. When questioned on Monday about the possibility of Watson going on IR, Stefanski responded, “Always gathering information, but he’s – listen, he’s getting better.” “He’s an eager learner. He is exerting himself.
