The Dodgers reassigned Trammell for assignment when they called up top outfield prospect Andy Pages earlier this week. Trammell, who the Dodgers acquired from the Seattle Mariners in a deal earlier this year, went 0-for-6.
Trammell was initially acquired while Jason Heyward was out with a back ailment. The Dodgers chose Trammell because he was a left-handed batter.
Trammell never received a full opportunity, with only six at-bats before the Dodgers decided it was time to call up the hot Pages. As a result, Trammell was DFA’d, and the Dodgers most likely anticipated he would clear waivers and continue with the team.
This was not the case, however, as the Yankees claimed him and will now take a chance on the former first-round pick outfielder.
The Dodgers are hopeful Pages can convert his Triple-A brilliance to the major leagues, giving them a difficult dilemma whenever Heyward returns.
