Ladd McConkey, a wide receiver prospect, has visited the Cleveland Browns ahead of the impending 2024 NFL Draft. This announcement came after McConkey spoke with the Atlanta Falcons on Friday.

McConkey shined at the Senior Bowl earlier this year, substantially increasing his draft prospects. He was awarded the top wide receiver for the American side, an accolade voted on by his defensive back teammates after a week of practice leading up to the game.

The former Bulldog then maintained his momentum into the combine, posting an excellent 4.39 forty-yard sprint. He also appeared slick as a route runner and shown good hands during on-field drills. If McConkey wasn’t already on most scouts’ radar, this performance undoubtedly confirmed that he was now receiving serious consideration.

McConkey is not just an accurate route runner with an amazing ability to create separation, but he is also a willing blocker. This can be an unusual characteristic when considering a traditional slot receiver. McConkey has the potential to be a quality slot receiver in the NFL, as well as a punt returner.

McConkey is my 39th overall prospect and 11th-ranked wide receiver in a crowded WR class.

While McConkey’s value continues to rise, it is worth noting that he has had lower productivity numbers in college than many other top receiver prospects. In 2022, he had a career high 762 receiving yards on 58 receptions, with 7 receiving touchdowns. In an injury-plagued 2023 season, McConkey caught 30 passes for 478 yards and two scores.

If the Browns select McConkey in the 2024 NFL Draft, the wide receiver position will become much more competitive. Elijah Moore, David Bell, and McConkey would presumably compete for time in the slot. The goal is that the 2023 injury bug doesn’t accompany McConkey into the league.
